We are chicken farmers

Three years ago we, meaning me begging Erik, decided to get chickens.  They are mine and the girls.  We are the ones to take care of them.  I built a coop and we soon started reaping the rewards of our pets..fresh eggs.  We started out with four..the following year we added four more.
This winter we lost one of our dear family members, I say family because my girls love them..they all have names and really are a part of the family to them. Anyways, this was an extremely cold winter and one of our chickens didn't survive.  So we are down to 7 hens..that number included our lesbian chicken Evie, she has never laid eggs for us and she kinda took on the role of the rooster since we don't have one.  She crows really loud in the mornings.  Well, since our older hens are three now and the egg laying is slowing down its time to rotate our little flock.  We had four baby chicks added to our family a few weeks ago.  They are getting big and growing feathers fast.
I have learned a lot about chickens over the past couple years and I am really hoping for a new coop this summer.  Every year I make a few modifications to it, but I am just ready for something bigger and more convenient...and on a cement slab to get rid of the icky mud out there with them.
